HISTORY OF SWEDISH GUSTAVIAN STYLE
Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the Swedish Aristocracy adopted design aspects from a variety of European courts - mainly Italy, France and England. The fusion of Swedish taste and styles imported by King Gustav III during his reign (from 1775-1792), resulted in the Gustavian style, a look which continues to exert its influence, a style so unmistakably Swedish.

THE COUNTRY SWEDISH COLLECTION
The Country Swedish Collection includes Furniture, Wallpaper, Fabrics and Rugs. All of the products available through Country Swedish are designed and made in Scandinavia by craftsmen who continue to preserve the tradition of Gustavian Swedish furniture making and design. Our fine reproductions are designed and developed with careful attention to scale, proportion and ornamental details, yet made to suit the American style of comfortable living. Our designs can be very elegant and sophisticated or more casual and informal, depending upon the colors, fabrics and accents you select. Our designs are equally adaptable to furnishing a country house or an elegant city home.

HANDCRAFTED QUALITY
Each piece in our collection is unique and individually made from the highest quality raw materials, using techniques and skills practiced by only a few. The furniture is made from traditional woods such as beech, birch and pine. The finishes and accents play a very important part in the end product. The extraordinary skill that is required to apply and properly burnish the color or stain remains a valued handcraft in the Swedish tradition.
